Eager to face the track!

May 7th - It has been long since my last update. Time flies when you work hard, like I/ We did the last weeks. I write ‘WE’ because I worked together with my team to get me ready for a burning track season. Together with my team-mates, coach-, physo and massage therapist I made the last two weeks into a good training period. So, basically I’m ready to face the track now.

I have only a few days left before I face my first race (800 meter, upcoming saterday). The first races are more low -key and I use them to get sharp and ready before I will race my first international 1500 meter on may 29th in Belgrade. I will keep you up to date in the section ’schedule’ about my race plans.

.

My aims this season are to enjoy the fact that I’m healthy after my injury season last year. I hope to set some great PB’s- break some barriers (4.10 – 9 min). writing this I have to think of something my coach told me “ There are no barriers only mental barriers”. Well I agree… So, lets just go out an try to be the first and the fastest! I hope to produce some great races and I will keep u all up to date as much as possible.

Pictures are from a photo shoot with my great new sponsor PK. They give me the opportunity to drive a brand-new car. Later more about their support! Pictures from Portugal will follow! So check back!.

Smelling summer

April 2nd - As u see my site is in the air again- thanks to Erik! It’s highly time to post a diary item. I can smell summer- not only in the air every now and then. I also smell the track season. After a little down time; around nationals; a time where I just trained but felt tired, I feel refreshed right now. I feel ready to embark on a great summer season. I know my fitness is good and I plan to build on that with a hard training stint leading into May when I start my competitive season. I will leave to Portugal on April 18th and stay for two weeks. I always look forward to go southwards but this period of the year is also just really hard work. Training on this level is a daily job and especially this period right before the track season, I will work hard to make the summer into a great one. I’m extreme happy to go abroad with a great team around me; I feel fortunate to have my coach, massage therapist, physiotherapist and team- mates and loved ones around me this period.

This next weeks I still focus on miles, long forest runs and some intensive long track programs. I know I can trust on a really good (my best ever) winter. So, in Portugal the fine- tuning will start. I plan to race good end of may (Hengelo) but the season is long….

Stay tuned as I will post pictures or updates form Portugal soon!

With love

Adrienne captures 4th Dutch Cross Country title in a row

March 2nd - Today Adrienne took the line as being the big time favourite for the Dutch Cross Country title. She did just what she had to do and turned homewards with her 4th gold medal in a row. Adrienne decided to stay in the pack the first km’s and made an impressive move with 2km to go, she directly had a gap on Miranda Boonstra but she struggled somehow to keep up to pace. Still she was never in real danger and successfully defended her title again.

“I’m happy with my gold medal it means a lot to me to win in front of my family and friends who came to watch. These races are difficult since all the eyes are watching me end there’s just one position on the podium which makes me happy. Today isn’t a peak moment for me; my focus is on training this period and without being in top shape I had to push myself a lot today.”

This is a great ending of an even better cross country season for Adrienne. Adrienne will now focus fully on her first track races. “I look forward a lot to hit the track after missing my track season last year. I desire a lot to race my favourite distances again. Right now I’m happy the Cross season is over. I’m done with the mud and over the last weeks I already really had the track season on my mind”

Adrienne raced without champion-chip, since she forgot to wear one, so there’s no official finish time.

Full of southern fuel ..facing nationals!

February 24th - NOTE: I finally put up a photo gallery from my Portugal training camp!

After a weekend of racing in Spain and two weeks of training in sun covered Portugal, I’m back in the Netherlands. To my relief I came back in fairly “warm” weather (10 degrees), so the shock to the system luckily isn’t to big. I had an admirable time in Portugal and Spain. Every time I stay in Spain or Portugal I start to love the south more and more. I have been getting into some great training with most double training days. I need to confess that there have been days where I was truly tired from all the miles. I did lots of endurance based work on unpaved surfaces but my personal highlight was a workout of 20x300mtr (1min rest) at almost 1000 meter altitude. I travelled to the stadium of Saie to do this training, its one of the most beautiful trainings spots I know in Portugal. The town is located in the Serra Estrala Mountains (with the highest peak of Portugal nearby: Toro 1939mtr/ 6,539 feet). The track is a Mondo track, which means hard but unbelievable fast and the mountain scenery is breathtaking beautiful. I had some local cheerleaders on the sideline which also pushed me a bit more. I felt so fortunate to die high up in the mountains with the lovely sunny weather. The fast times I ran must be developed by the passion and joy I felt!

Well, and now I’m back home and cant wait to race again. I hold back now until national championships cross upcoming Sunday, to make sure I’m fresh and strong out there to be able to defend my Dutch title! I hope to see u all at Nationals and for those who take the line I wish u all Luck!

On the end, I promise to drop my Portugal pictures online soon- since I promised to make pictures; I kept my promise, so check back!

Have a good one- até a proxima (as we say in Portugal)

Strong 6th place in ´Cross Internacional de Castellon´

February 10th - Known for its lively Spanish crowd, Castellon is a wonderfull place to race cross country, the´Cross internacional de Castellon´ proved to be a good race for Adrienne. She finished a strong 6th place in a field with top level entries. On the very fast course, covered by lots of sunshine (20 degrees) Adrienne raced from start to finish in 6th position. "I wanted to wait and kick in the end by using my 1500 meter finishing speed. Today showed that making (race) plans doesnt always work out. When the gun went off the Kenyan girls went off like idiots, I chose my own pace and I pushed myself a lot from start to finish. My time (20.18 over 6.3km) shows I raced on a very high pace, this is something you can´t quite mimic in training"

Adrienne had a bit of a bump in the road on monday where she overstretched a muscle in her hip while doing weight training. " I´m happy everything came around without cancelling training. My hip was sore over the last week but today it didnt bothered me any more"

Adrienne will stay one more day in Castellon before heading over to Portugal where she will stay for a block of good weather training tp prepare for Nationals. Untill now the circumstances are great in southern Europe(20 degrees and loads of sunshine)- perfect conditions to kick in some good training. Stay tuned for race pictures and updates from Portugal!
