News After set back comes a bounch back..This season has been a very rough and emotional ride. After Hengelo I got my blood work done and it showed some small health problems, which explained my not feeling fit and struggles in racing. And although I bounced back and got my training on rails, I don't think I quite regained my physical energy from the month before. Being not in the right shape I now decided to stop my season. It's a really tough pill to swallow, knowing I won't be going to Barcelona, especially when I know I've worked so hard and done everything possible to prepare for a great race in Europeans. But at the moment I walk around with a big smile because I truly think that in some way my decision gives me a huge new change..
Knowing that I have had a very busy and above all successful!! winter schedule, taking an early active break is all I need. I plan on being back in training early August. This gives me great possibilities to prepare the European Cross Country Championship the best possible way. I’m very motivated to prepare myself for another place on the podium..I made a perfect plan with coach Pascua to be in great shape at the EXC and it gives me wondeful energy to think/dream and GO FOR IT
I realize after 1,5 year where everything went great a setback is very normal and expected. I did a very good analyzing with coach Pascua which made us a stronger team for the future. Knowing myself a setback produces great ‘Herzog bounch back energy’. As well this whole experience has taught me a lot and given me a new desire to succeed.
Finally I want to say how blessed I am to have such an amazing support system. I've received so many emails and calls of support from friends and family and I want to say thank you to everyone for your support because that definitely helps me. (I feel sorry to not be able to answer all of you in person, but know that I read everything and some advises I got are just wonderful!)
I also want to wish all athletes the best of luck in Barcelona- I'm still a proud Dutchie and will be cheering the team on from Spain and USA!
